| Сардэчна запрашаем у Мірскі замак! The Mir Castle complex is an interesting castle located outside of the Belarusian capital of Minsk. The castle was built in the late 15th and early 16th centuries by the Ilyinichi family. Though references of it had been made clear back to 1531, it is believed that construction started later on. The main bulk of Mir Castle is made up of various walls and towers of Gothic style. Though construction of the main castle stopped in the mid-16th century for unknown reasons, a palatial (of resemblance to a palace) accommodation was added in the 17th century. This part of the castle was influenced by the Renaissance, with a Latin-style garden and a system of ponds. Following sieges in 1655 and later in 1706, reconstruction work involved adding some Baroque features. The many different styles give the castle its interesting appearance. It was severely damaged again during the Napoleonic era and remained in a ruined state. During the late 1800's it was purchased by the Duke of Svyatopolk-Mirsky and the area around it was renovated (including the addition of a new lake that reflects the castle). It was partially restored in the 1920's and 1930's and served as a prison camp and ghetto during WWII. Restoration did not begin again until 1982. Mir Castle (which is now almost 600 years old) has experienced many important eras of our history. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in December of 2000 and is a major tourist attraction today for Belarus. Дзякуй за наведванне! |
