This is the Knights Hall. Below is the emblem of Corvin Castle. The Raven is holding a gold ring in his mouth. Do you see it hanging in the hall? | Bine ați venit la Castelul Corvinilor! This historic Romanian Castle was built during the 15th century on top of a former settlement by Iancu of Hunedoara. At the time, he was a leading Hungarian political and military leader of South-Central Europe. It is built in a mixture between Renaissance and Gothic styles and has just about everything a castle can have, including a courtyard, bastions, thick walls, a dungeon (more on that later), towers, ramparts, delightful dining halls, a swanky spiral stair case, and a drawbridge complete with a moat. The elaborate castle also has a very nice interior, with many rooms from prison cells to fancy dining halls. The Knights Hall is perhaps the fanciest part of the building, with its marble floors, tall arches, and pillars. The hall was used for feasting, ceremonies, and court trials. But what makes this castle truly special are the legends. Directly under the Hall is where Vlad the Impaler may have been imprisoned for 7 years. Another legend is the legend of the castles well. In the courtyard you can today see where Iancu of Hunedoara ordered Turkish slaves to dig a well 30 feet into the ground. The deal was that if the slaves found water in the rocky ground they could be free. After many years of digging, they finally found water, but were not granted freedom. Instead, they were beheaded. The castle itself was admired centuries to come, and it received many of the improvements we see today in the 17th centuries. I recommend you look more into this castle and the other castles of Romania. In my opinion, this country has some of the Europe's best castles. Multumesc pentru vizita! |
