| Witamy w Kwidzynie Zamek! This beautiful early Gothic castle was completely built in 1233 and is located by Gdańska Street and is located in Kwidzyń, Poland. The castle was used by the Pomesanians as a chapter house. This castle is very interesting to the eye, with its majestic bridge that leads to the distinctive tower. This Teutonic (a Germanic tribe or Celtic tribe from as early as 4 B.C. from the Jutland area) defense tower is located one hundred eighty feet away from the main body of the castle by the world longest "porch". This porch (though I will call it a bridge) is supported by five arches that tower over the path below it. The rest of the castle is also quite large. The castle over the centuries was rebuilt several times, depending on various factors was developed and partially dismantled. At the time of its greatest development (between the sixteenth and nineteenth century) it was a four-winged complex with a courtyard inside. The newer additions were topped with steep, beuatiful red roofs that matched the rest of the castle. The main tower, which is connected to the south-east corner, is the bell tower for the cathedral. The cathedral takes up a decent portion of the castle. Unfortunately, the castle was partially demolished by the Prussian authorities in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries |
