| Ласкаво, щоб проковтнути в гніздо замок! Swallow's Nest Castle is a tiny fairytale castle built in Crimea in 1912. The owner was a wounded general from the Crimean War that was awarded this plot of land by the sea a gift from the empire for his heroic actions during the Crimean War. When he was granted the land in 1877, he built a small wooden house that satisfied his wants for a calm and cozy place where he could relax in solitude. In 1910 the owner of the rock, Baron von Steingel, wanted to replace his little summer residence with a more refined structure. He hired architect Vsevolod Sherwood to design a small romantic fairytale castle. However, Steingel was only able to spend two years in his beloved castle before a Moscow business man came and bought the castle and converted it into a restaurant. Once one reaches the castle they realize how small it really is. There are only two floors, only a few rooms (hall, living-room, two bedrooms, now converted into an Italian restaurant. The palace was once surrounded by a magnificent garden, but in 1927 a massive earthquake struck the area and much of the rock and trees fell into the sea. Since then a big chunk of the Swallow's Nest has been hanging over the sea, making an exciting and scary site. In 1967 a repair team secured the castle with a new concrete foundation and anti-seismic belts to save it from falling in next. Дякуємо за відвідування! |
