| Vítejte na Hluboká hradu! Hluboká Castle is a beautiful neo-gothic castle situated in South Bohemia in the Czech Republic. The castle was originally founded as a guarding castle in the mid 13th century by the Kings of Bohemia and was frequently fortified throughout the centuries as several aristocratic families took turns owning it. The castle went through many phases as different people took over. During the Thirty Years War Hluboká went under extensive fortifications as it was the seat of the imperial general Don Baltazar de Marradas. During the 19th century, Hluboká went under two restorations. The first was in the Baroque style, and later, in the years between 1841 and 1871 they carried out even more reconstruction in a romantic neo-gothic style including the arrangement of the ornate 1.9 square kilometer English park and replanting much of the countryside. The castle was abandoned in 1939 when the Schwarzenbergs emigrated overseas to escape the Nazis. In 1940, the castle was seized from Adolph Schwarzenberg by the Gestapo and confiscated by the government of Czechoslovakia after the end of World War II. The castle is now open to the public and is popular for its winter gardens. Today the castle with its large chapel is also famous for hosting weddings. As you can see from the picture, the interior is one of the most well decorated in Europe. It looks like it would be hard just to move around! Děkujeme za návštěvu! |
