| Vítame Vás na hrade Bojnice! Bojnice Castle is a beuatiful castle overlooking the Slovak town of Bojnice. The first refrences to the castles existence date back to the year 1113. The original castle was made of wood that was built up from the older castle. Gradually the castle became bigger and eventually by the end of the 13th century it had built up to stone. The outer walls were shaped to fit the uneven rocky terrain, so the fortress is an uneven shape. Matus Cak Trenciansky gained control of Bojnice by the end of the 13th century. The castle changed ownership between different noble families throughout the 14th and 15th centuries. Soon the Bojnice was seized by Zapolsky troops that inhabited it until 1526. The troops soon transformed the castle into a mighty fortress thats walls and towers are still preserved today. In Under King Ferdinand I in 1527, the fortress of Bojnice was made into a Renaissance seat for Alexej Thurzo. The castles Gothic style was transformed into more of a Renaissance style. After Thurzo came King Ferdinand III which transformed Bojnice even more. There was no major contruction in the 17th - 19th centuries. After some deterioration, Bojnice was purchased by a private collector in 1852 and renovation began in 1889. Bojnice was confiscated in 1945 by the government and was declared a national monument of Slovakia in 1970. This Bojnice Castle provides a perfect example of how each owner of a castle will add his/her modifications to it until you have a picturesque building with a variety of styles. Vďaka za návštevu! |
